Still Soaring After 20 years..
Celebrating our 20th year anniversary couldn't have been more fulfilling as the four day competition
at NC A & T State University wrapped up with over 2000 athletes from five states competing for the
opportunity to advance to the National Championships in Sacramento CA.
For three of our athletes, advancing to national competition is no new experience however for two of
those athletes it will be their first opportunity to compete on the National Level. For second year
athlete Kendra Harrison, this weekends competition was a repeat of her double gold performance at
the NCHSAA Track and Field Championships however what may have been most fulfilling was joining
CETC alum Lycurtis Cuffee in the USATF record books. She set two new Region 3 records in the
100mH (13.86) and the 400mH (59.08). Melicia Mouzzon, a first year bantam just missed qualifying
in her 100m by .01 seconds. While disappointed, she was encouraged to focus on her upcoming
200m run where she finished second (28.31) sealing her qualifying for the National Championships.
As always there are veteran runners even at the ripe age of 11. After two consecutive years of
advancement to the National Championships, Eboni Roberson was the first of the Eagles to qualify
on Friday evening in the 800m (2:33.47) with a second place finish only to be topped off by an
impressive and commanding victory in the 1500m (5:21.73) on Sunday morning. Sean McClean will
also be making a repeat appearance and joins Eboni and Kendra earning two medal at the Region 3
Championship with silver medals in both the 100m (10.65) and 200m (21.43). Sha'Niya Chapman
rounds out the field of five athletes with a surprise bronze place finish in the Long Jump (15-08.75).
With Region Three ( North Carolina, South Carolina, Virgina, Georgia and the Potomac Valley
States) being one of the toughest regions in the US, our athletes will undoubtedly be ranked among
the top in the Nation as we look forward to great National performances from our athletes
