The Carolina Eagles Track Club has returned from Baltimore MD, after competing in the USATF Junior Olympic Championships at Morgan State University.  Athletes brought home and a first time experience to many, of competing with the best track and field athletes in the country.

 

The Bantam Age Division (9-10) saw gold, bronze and silver medal victories. First year eagle Kimai Hoffman lead the medal count with two medal performances in the 100m where he sprinted past Track Houston’s Cecil Sheffield for a gold winner performance of 12.94 (13.01 prelim), and a silver in the long jump where in his final attempt he leaped to a second place performance of 16-07.75, just .75 meters from a double. His teammate, Williams Dunn was the only other athlete to compete in an individual event on the track where he finished 12th in the 1500m in a time of 5:18.35 while Jonte Leaston was the only other athlete to compete in an individual in the field where he placed 10th in his first year of competition in the high-jump (3-11.25). Kimani Hoffman anchored the bronze winning 4x100m team with, Jamal Frazier, Kelton Whitehead and Camron Lewis. Jamal Frazier participated on the Nationally ranked 4x100m relay team from 2005.

 

The Midget Age Division (11-12) saw the greatest number of athletes with (12) athletes competing. The hurdles were highly anticipated with three athletes competing for their first time on the National arena. Teammates Mollie Williams and Amber Farrell competed in the 80mh, where Williams went on to take 7th  (13.30) improving one place from the prelims (13.35) and teammate Farrell taking 10th (13.38) Hurdle mate Carnell Lewis finished 5th (12.74) overall after posting what was his best performance in the prelims with a time of 12.69.  Lewis and Farrell went on to compete in the 4x800m relays where the males (Alfred Nobles, Carnell Lewis, George McLamb, Sandy Chapman) finished #16 and the females  (Devonne Lyerly, Ayanna Harrison, Amber Farrell, Angel Farrel) finished #12.  On the field Desiree Fisher, leaped to a 11th place finish (14-05.00”) in what was her Nationals debut in the long jump. Jasmine Edwards, represented the club as the first athlete to compete in the 1500m Racewalk event in 10:38.67 and a 21st place finish.

 

The Youth Age Division (13-14) was represented by veteran Shakira Worsley who finished 13th in the 3000m (11:11.40) and 24th in the 1500m (5:18.53) and teammate Taja Gardner-Rand who finished 13th on the field in the triple jump (32-04.25) at her first National competition while teammate Penelope Mathes qualified in the javelin where she finished 25th with a throw of 66-07”. Shakira Worsley geared up for her third qualifying event and anchored the 4x800m relay team to a 20th place finish alongside teammates Jordan Farrell, Chelsi Gorham and Deanna Hardesty. Their male counterparts finished 20th in the 4x400 meter relay ( Claytin Lewis, Kwavon Greene-Taylor, Jordan Maness, Brandon Hodge).

 

Rounding out field of competitors was Chrishawn Williams, six time National Championship competitor who after a successful introductory year in High School placed 6th in the Intermediate Girls long jump with a leap of 17-00.50 and a 7th place finish in the triple jump with a performance of 37-09.50.

 

 

The 2006 represented a successful year indicative of hard work and determination!!
